Anniversary Giveaway Winner!
Today I am celebrating the first anniversary of Creative Perch! Last week I posted about the anniversary giveaway of Ignore Everybody by Hugh McLeod and asked participants to share the best creative business advice they have received. I was absolutely thrilled by the responses, and I love that we can learn from each other’s life lessons. In case you haven’t read the comments on that post, I thought I’d share them here:
The best piece of advice I have ever received was “break your goal into do-able, small tasks”. I am one of those people who see the big picture and then get completely overwhelmed by it and shut down.
I can do one small thing to step towards my goal, I can’t complete or even fathom my goal in one giant leap.

Reader Poll & Top Secret Anniversary Giveaway
Can you believe it? Next Wednesday, October 28, Create Perch will celebrate its one-year anniversary. Anniversaries are for celebrating and giving gifts, so as a special thanks to all of you incredible readers, I’m hosting a giveaway!
There are three ways you can participate:
- Answer this poll question in the comments below: What is the single best piece of creative career advice you’ve ever received? (And if you feel like posting extra, please share how the advice has impacted you!)
- Tweet a link to this post and our one year anniversary giveaway, then comment back here to let me know you did.
- Post a link to the giveaway on your blog and comment back here to let me know you did.
July Giveaway Winner!
The winner of the set of silk screened note cards by Alisha Gould is Janet Faye. Thanks to everyone for participating!
Silk Screened Lovelies & a Giveaway!
I love Etsy. If you take the time to search through the different categories and features, you’ll discover a world of artists with unique approaches and styles. Yesterday I searched through seventy or so local artists, and I was amazed both by the number and the variance in style and approach. It’s very inspiring!
A week or two ago I discovered the beautiful silk screened work of Alisha Gould. Her pieces are both organic and modern in style, and I love her choice of color.
This month I am giving away a set of these beautifully screen printed note cards from Alisha’s Seaweed Silhouette collection.
Here are the giveaway contest rules:
- Post your name, and if you can, a link to your favorite screen printed artwork.
- Share briefly why it’s your favorite.
- Then, next Wednesday, July 8, I will select one commenter at random to receive the book. I’ll send the winner an email as well as announce it here.
- When the winner emails me back with his or her mailing address, I’ll ship the note cards.
Check out Alisha’s Etsy store to see more of her beautiful work or just visit the Etsy site to discover many wonderful artists.
Good luck with the giveaway! And have fun discovering new and old favorite artists!
“Serious Drawings” Giveaway Winner
Congratulations to Ben, aka Beniaminus, winner of this month’s drawing and a copy of Serious Drawings by Marc Johns.
Thanks to everyone who participated! It was a lot of fun, and I’ll certainly be doing more giveaways in the future.
Giveaway: Serious Drawings
Last week I mentioned the happy news that I have an extra new-in-plastic copy of Serious Drawings by Marc Johns to give away to one reader of Creative Perch.
There are so many ways to conduct a giveaway. I think I’ve re-written the rules for this one about three different times. Instead of sending out a special code via Twitter, or picking the third commenter, I decided to keep it simple.
Even though Marc has been publishing his work on Flickr for several years, I’m a recent fan, and I’m convinced more people need to hear about him. Therefore, here are the contest rules:
- Visit Marc’s Flickr photostream.
- Choose which one of Marc’s illustrations is your favorite.
- Tell us why you chose it and post a link to the image in the comments. (If you need help with this, email me at dee at creativeperch dot com).
- Then, on Friday morning, I will select one commenter at random to receive the book. I’ll send the winner an email as well as announce it here.
- When the winner emails me back with his or her mailing address, I’ll ship the book.
A couple of notes, because although it may be obvious, this is my first giveaway, and I just want to be sure:
- Let’s be fair. If there are a lot of commenters, I’ll use Random.org for the drawing. If there are under 10, I’ll put your numbers in a bowl and have my husband pick one.
- To the winner – Please do not post your physical address in the comments. That’s just not safe.
- I will not share your email address, physical address, or any other contact info with anyone, ever. Because that’s just wrong.
Read my review of Marc’s book here, or check out his website to hear more from him about this project.
Good luck! And have fun exploring! I think you’ll really enjoy Marc’s illustrations.
