This Week: Explore a New City
I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel more this year than in years past, but sadly, to already familiar places. While the cities I’ve visited are fantastic, I know that I feel most energized creatively when I am exploring a new place, with unique pockets of culture and a completely different style than what I am used to.
I plan to remedy the situation by attending a conference in Austin next March for the first time. You may have heard of it. It’s called South by Southwest (link to http://sxsw.com), and it has a reputation for being the number one conference to attend if you are an artist, creative, chef, designer, writer, techy, or have any inkling of creative ability. There are other conferences that focus on specific topics, but SXSW is a creativity mashup. Can’t wait!
I am hoping to stay the full week in Austin. I’ve never been there before, so I am really excited. I love experiencing new cities. In my downtime between speakers (ha!), here’s how I plan to explore this amazing city full of creative people and works of art:
- Walking tour
- Podcasts
- Reading blogs by local creatives
- Following the #sxsw Twitter stream
- Planning a day for exploring (camera & notebook in hand!)
