Every Monday is Tip Day! This Week: Start Off on the Right Foot

This Week: Start Off on the Right Foot

I’ve been having trouble with Monday mornings lately. I start off, hitting the ground running, and by 10:00 am, my brow is furrowed and I can feel a headache coming on.

Quite honestly, it’s gotten to the point that I dread them a little bit. So, just in case  you are feeling the same way, I’ve thought about this and created a set of tips to help both of us get started off on the right foot. After all, a great Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week!

  1. Make weekends restful. Chris and I have been packing our weekends so full lately. Whether it’s a photo shoot or a video shoot or a mad rush to finish a ton of household projects, weekends have been everything but restful. We’ve been waking up early, just like a workday, and tackling the day’s projects. In short, this means we’ve been skipping our opportunity for rest and essentially working seven days a week. No wonder we wake up tired on Monday mornings!
  2. Plan the week ahead on Sunday. Whether it’s organizing your calendar and appointments, buying supplies, washing laundry, or grocery shopping for the week, your Monday morning will roll out so much more smoothly if you stock up and prepare over the weekend. A friend of mine works out his calendar on Sunday nights, following an honored time-management tradition. Mornings are usually better for me, though, so find the time that works for you to prep for the week.
  3. Eat breakfast. I have really been working on this, but I still sometimes skip food in favor of coffee in the mornings. Then, again, by 10:00 am, I have a headache and wonder why I’m cranky. For me, it’s usually a low blood sugar issue, but there are several studies that show the value of a big breakfast in relation to energy, health, weight and control, and brain function. If you want to be a fully functioning creative, eat a good breakfast!

So far, this Monday morning is going well. I slept in, which I shouldn’t have, but I was exhausted from a very, very full weekend. Then, I snuggled with my husband and our dogs and tried to make up for lost family time. By at 8:30, the coffee was going, the dishwasher was running, and my day was in full swing. It’s now 9:30, my email/Twitter/Facebook are all checked, I’m eating breakfast with my husband, and my brow remains un-furrowed. So far, so good!

    Hey, Dee,

What about Carnation instant breakfast warm in a mug in the mornings to replace ONLY ONE cup of coffee???? :)

Aww, everyone is so going to know you’re my mom! :) Yeah, of the two to three cups I drink a day, guess it wouldn’t be a bad idea to switch one of them out for something healthy. :)
