A few weeks ago I wrote about the fantastic cover art by FaceOut books commissioned by Faber & Faber for a series of poetry hardbacks in celebration of the publisher’s 80th Anniversary. Nonsuchbook recently hosted a giveaway, and I was so lucky to win a set of these amazing books. (If you love books, I hope you’ll take some time to explore Nonsuch Book – it’s a fantastic blog).
So, I have a confession. As tech-geeky as I may be, and as much of a promoter of innovation as I am, I am a die-hard book lover and will always be on the analog side of the print vs. digital argument. I love the way books smell, I love how they feel when you (gently!) crack them open, and I love the stories they have to tell. I have a collection of rare books and first editions that I look forward to one day passing on to my kids and grandkids.
I also love illustration, and the artists commissioned by Faceout Books to create the covers for this series are truly gifted individuals. I had read about the design process and seen pictures of the finished works, so by the time this set of books arrived in my mailbox late last week, I couldn’t wait to open the package and see the covers in person. I have to say, they are absolutely exquisite!
