How to Get Your Creative Groove On is an original series by Perch. In part 22 we’ll look how to engage in guerrilla art in everyday life, through simple means that *hopefully* will not get you arrested.
What is Guerrilla Art?
Guerrilla art basically a way of getting art out into the world in a way that engages the public. It’s not formal, commissioned art and occurs in a variety of formats, to include street art, fabric art, installation art, and even guerrilla gardening.
The Rules
Really, there are no rules, except these two:
- Use *safe* supplies that will not permanently change a surface. For example, water-soluble glue, soap paint, et cetera.
- Do not defame another person’s personal property.
Engage!
First, choose a public location. Lamp posts are common, as are parking meters and park benches. Demolition sites are great, as well.
Then, choose your medium. Will you participate in the Global Knit-Up and flag a lamp pole? Or leave an inspiring message against social injustice on a wall that’s about to be torn down? Or will you leave installation art in a public walk space?
Third and finally, post tales of your adventures back here!
