This Week: Use Twitter Search
If you haven’t discovered Twitter, I recommend you check it out immediately. It’s a great social networking tool and useful for keeping up with your friends; however, it’s also a great resource for tracking trends across the country. And learning to track trends is a valuable tool in an economy where creativity and innovation are the driving line between success and failure.
Twitter is a trend-tracking via conversation-tracking tool. For example, a search on Twitter this morning for the term “art” turned up lots of conversations about art, current art projects, art exhibits, and inspirational creative tidbits. A search for the words “listening to” is a fun one – always interesting to see the different musicians and artists a great number of people are listening to.
When you zero in on a query that piques your passion, you can subscribe to a Twitter feed of that search term, which is constantly updated. I had Twitter feeds for the terms “entrepreneur” and “design,” had a few thousand feed results in just a few days. I’ve begun to follow a few of the people who showed up in my feed, just because their conversation was so interesting.
Getting started with Twitter is super-easy and well worth it. Follow me on Twitter with a direct message about Perch, and I’ll return the favor and follow you. Better yet, check out who I’m following and follow them, too!
